Decommissioning conference in Esbjerg 600 platforms in the North Sea soon due for scrapping When the oil prices start dropping a bit, it will be time to look at some of the 600 platforms in the North Sea having served their owners faithfully for decades. Like an old horse time has come for some of them to be put to sleep. But decommissioning and scrapping the enormous constructions may result in environmental and technical problems encountered never before. That is the background for Esbjerg calling a conference in October called “Environmentally Sustainable Offshore Decommissioning” especially highlighting the environmental aspect of the situation. At present the steering committee consists of distinguished persons from international oil and gas companies and universities to ensure high-end papers on the conference, and the call for papers and other arrangements have already started.
